Custom House 29, Soroptimist 12

Custom House put the finishing touches on their undefeated season by capturing the Optimist Youth Basketball Girl’s Middle School Division 2018 Championship by besting Soroptimist 29 – 12 in the season’s finale. Jillian Towe led all Soroptimist scorers with ten points, eight in the second half. Noelani Greger had seven points and Madison Poljanec six. Livia Hedberg paced Soroptimist with seven points with Twyla Borck and Serafina Ruffinmoedi both scoring two points each.

Custom House 25, McDonald’s 18

In the first qualifying contest Custom House rode a balanced scoring effort defeating McDonald’s 25 to 18 to move on to the championship round. Jillian Towe led the Custom House scoring effort with seven points followed closely behind by teammates Madison Poljanec and Noelani Greger with six points apiece. Capri Russell added four points and Juliette Moshetti two. McDonald’s also dispersed their scoring talliesas Quincy Frommelt leading the way with six points while Bianca Avalos and Gianna McDaniel added four each, Chloe Dinsdale and Samantha Shelton each pitched in two.

Soroptimist 29, Anette’s Chocolates 9

Soroptimist notched an 18 point fourth quarter to charge into the championship round. Natalie Ruffner scored eight of her ten points in the last period. Teammate Aelyn van Gorder saved her best for last as well dropping six of her seven points in the final eight minutes. Livia Hedberg scored eight points to go with her five steals. Twyla Bork had seven rebounds to accompany her four points. Maeve Roberts led Anette’s with four points while Grace Marek and Jasmine Palmas each pitched in a pair.

Soroptimist 34, Anette’s Chocolates 13

Soroptimist outscored Anette’s in the day’s opening game, riding double-double effort from two players. Livia Hegberg scored 15 points to go with her 10 rebounds while teammate Twyla Borck had ten points and ten rebounds. Hot on their heels was Aelyn van Gorder who added eight points and seven rebounds. Serafina Ruffinmoedi turned in a stellar defensive performance grabbing six rebounds and frustrating Anette’s offense with seven steals. Anette’s Samantha Davis came within one point of her own double-double notching nine points and ten rebounds. Alex Whipple and Jasmine Palmas each added two points for the Chocolates. Maeve Roberts pulled down six rebounds as well.

Custom House 33, McDonald’s 26

A very close game through three quarters, Custom House’s Juliette Moshetti scored all six of her points in the decisive fourth quarter as Custom House pulled away for the victory capping their undefeated season. Jillian Towe led the Custom House scoring with 12 points followed by Noelani Gregor with six points. Gregor and Madison Poljanec each had six rebounds. McDonald’s kept the game close with a balanced scoring effort led by Samantha Shelton with nine points, Chloe Dinsdale with five, Bianca Avalos with four and Quincy Frommelt with two. Shelton also hauled in six rebounds.

Custom House 27, Anette’s Chocolates 9

Jillian Towe and Madison Poljanec led Custom House’s scoring with eight and 12 points respectively. Towe also had 7 steals to round out her day. Juliette Moshetti notched three points while Noelani Greger and Kendall Schmidt each dropped in two. Savannah Davis led Anette’s scoring with three points. Jasmine Palmas and Kiersten Hansen each had two points while Ellie Kennedy and Alex Whipple had one apiece. Davis also pulled down 11 rebounds.

Soroptimist 26, McDonald’s 20

Samantha Sheldon paced the Big Mac Attack’s scoring with ten points while garnering 11 rebounds. Gianna McDaniel added eight points and Quincy Frommelt two. The team effort however was outpaced as Soroptimist pulled away in the final 1:20 of the fourth quarter. Livia Hegberg scored seven of her 11 points in the decisive final period. Twyla Borck turned in a double-double with ten points, ten rebounds and eight steals. Natalie Ruffner added three points while Quinn Edie and Aelyn van Gorder each scored two.

Custom House 29, Soroptimist 12

Madison Poljanec led the scoring attack with 12 points and teammate Noelani Greger added in eight as Custom House defeated Soroptimist on Sunday’s opening game. Jillian Towe pitched in five points as well. Livia Hegberg and Aelyn van Gorder paced Soroptimist with six and four points respectively. Natalie Ruffner dropped in two points as well.

McDonalds’ 29, Anette’s Chocolates 20.

The two teams traded baskets, each scoring 16 points in the second half. McDonald’s road strong first half scoring to victory over Anette’s Chocolates. Anette’s Savannah Davis had a breakout game notching a double-double: 16 points and 14 rebounds. But, her output alone wasn’t enough to stop a McDonald’s victory. Gianna McDaniel led McDonald’s scoring march with 15 points. Chloe Dinsdale had a balanced morning tallying six points, eight rebounds, and six steals. Bianca Avalos and Samantha Shelton each tossed in four points.

Madison Poljanec and Noelani Greger had similar scorekeeper lines Sunday as Polanjec scored 14 points to go with her seven rebounds while Greger had eight points to go with her eight rebounds. Zoey Taylor, Jillian Towe, Capri Russell, and Juliette Moshetti all added two points on the day. Moshetti also had four rebounds. McDonald’s spread their scoring across their lineup as Gianna McDaniel and Bianca Avalos notched four points each, Samantha Shelton three, Elizabeth Phillips and Chloe Dinsdale each pitched in two. Shelton added nine boards and Avalos six.

Soroptimist 36, Anette’s Chocolates 15

Three teammates accounted for all of Soroptimists’ scoring: Livia Hegberg scored 20 points, Twyla Borck ten, and Aelyn van Gorder six. 12 of Hegberg’s points came in the fourth quarter. Borck had a double-double adding eleven rebounds to her day’s work. Alex Whipple paced all Anette’s scorers garnering five points. Savannah Davis was close behind with four. Maeve Roberts and Kiersten Hansen polished of the scorecard with two points each. Whipple and Davis each had five steals. Whipple also tallied five rebounds for the contest.

Optimist Girls Open a Stellar New Year

Custom House 30, Anette’s Chocolates 17

Anette’s Chocolate’s balanced scoring attack wasn’t enough to hold off a Custom House victory in the opening game of 2018 for the Girl’s division of Optimist Youth Basketball. Madison Poljanec notched ten of her game high 14 points in the fourth quarter. Jillian Towe pitched in eight more and Noelani Greger four. Anette’s spread their scoring across their roster with Kiersten Hansen leading the charge with six points and Savannah Davis with four. Maeve Roberts had three points for the Chocolates while Alex Whipple and Grace Marek each chipped in two. Davis had 10 rebounds to round out her day.

McDonald’s 19, Soroptimist 16

McDonald’s held off a fourth quarter Soroptimist effort to persevere 19 to 16 in the day’s second match. Gianna McDaniel paced the McDonald’s scoring effort with six points aided by Samantha Shelton with four. Bianca Avalos had three points coupled with six steals. Chloe Dinsdale, Quincy Frommelt, and Evelyn Guia each dropped two points on the day. Natalie Ruffner led the Soroptimist scoring with six points followed by Livia Hegberg with five. Aelyn van Gorder added three points. Van Gorder and Twyla Bork played solid defense for Soroptimist; van Gorder picking her opponents pockets for seven steals and Bork garnering another seven steals to accompany her game high 12 rebounds.

Optimist Girls Start Season with a Bang

Soroptimist 24 McDonald’s 22

Livia Hegberg, along with the rest of her team, celebrated when her winning basket fell through the net as the game’s final buzzer sounded. A hard fought battle saw the game tied with nine seconds left as Hegberg picked up a loose ball and scored the final two of her 19 points as time expired. Aelyn van Gorder scored four points. Twyla Borck played solid defense tallying eight rebounds. Chloe Dinsdale led all McDonald’s scorers with seven points. Gianna McDaniel added six points while Bianca Avalos and Quincy Frommelt added five and four points respectively. Dinsdale also notched six rebounds on the day.

Custom House 22 Anette’s Chocolates 12

Madison Poljanec paced her Custom House teammates with 14 points to go along with her six rebounds. Jillian Towe added four points to accompany her five rebounds and six steals as Custom House defeated Anette’s Chocolates on the first day of the girl’s division of Optimist Youth Basketball’s 2017-1028 season. Alex Whipple led Anette’s scoring with seven points. Savannah Davis added three points and played hard defense pulling in five rebounds and five steals. Jasmine Palmas also added two points for the Chocolates.

The Optimist Girl’s Middle School division is still accepting applications for the current season. Interested parties should contact Warren Stone at 226-8201 or Matt O’Byrne at 226-2060. Scholarships are available. Come out, have fun and learn how to play basketball. No previous experience needed.
